Jason L’Ecuyer
I’ve taken a circuitous route to get where I am today, both personally and professionally. On a personal level, I’ve gone from the Appalachian mountains of West Virginia, to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, the High Sierras of California and now Sydney, Australia. Professionally, I’ve worked as wildfire (bushfire) fighter, community development worker, place-maker, audio producer and designer. The threads that weave them together are the strong belief in the power of storytelling to convey complex ideas. I’ve always taken inspiration from the non-human world, particularly rivers and mountains.
Drawing influences from Appalachian storytelling (particularly the Foxfire series), DIY music communities and river ecosystems, I take a strong place-based approach to every project. I believe that people and place are indelibly linked, whether we’re aware of the connection or not.
